after the eggs are laid the mummy and daddy eel die soon after, once the baby eels (called Larva) hatch they then swim all the way back to new Zealand and then stay in lake Ellesmere for up to 2-50 years until swimming all the way back to the place where their mum and dad laid them.

All about eels
Last week we went to lake Ellesmere to learn all about eels and their life cycle a guy called Clem Smith taught us all about eels and what their life cycle is like and all about. eels travel all the way from new Zealand to the hot water by Hawaii where the mummy and daddy eels breed, the males rap their body around the female eels and squeeze them causing the eggs to fall out from the female.
